NATIONAL MARINE SANCTUARY REPAIRS AND RENOVATIONS

CLIENT: NOAA, NMFS, PIR Western Region Acquisition Division

LOCATION: Kihei, Maui

TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION: Wood Frame

This design/build project included various repairs and renovations to NOAA’s National Marine Sanctuary for Humpback Whales in Kihei, Maui. Work included interior retrofits, a new garage, CMU trash enclosure, added 2nd floor in Turtle Stranding room, and Mossy stone veneer at specific locations around the building. The new building provides expanded facilities for research and education programs that will enhance humpback whale protection in Hawaii.

This design/build project, awarded to WPC under a Multiple Award Task Order Contract with NOAA’s Western Region Acquisition Division in Seattle, is truly a testament to the design/build method of construction, where teamwork helped create maximum value for the funds available. The cooperation among all team members enabled the successful completion of this project ahead of schedule.

“WPC completed the project ahead of schedule and within budget. The quality of workmanship was excellent. NOAA received numerous compliments regarding the aesthetics of the facility and this is a tribute to WPC’s architectural expertise and the quality of its workers.”
