CHEMICAL/METALLURGICAL ANALYSIS FACILITY

CLIENT: Department of the Navy

LOCATION: PSNS, Bremerton, WA

BUILDING SF: 35,000

TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION: Structural Steel Frame with Exterior Brick Masonry

This project consisted of the complete renovation and seismic upgrade to a historical structure located on unstable foundation material at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA. The building was originally constructed in 1896 and is listed on the National Historic Registry.

The complex nature of this project was to take the 35,000 square foot historical warehouse and convert it into a Chemical/Metallurgical Analysis Laboratory Facility. Changes and repairs were made to correct historical deficiencies as well as bring the building up to current seismic requirements. Additional engineering and design services were required to repair damages caused by the earthquake of February 2001.

“You have consistently risen above and beyond the basic requirements to suggest alternatives, accommodate changes, and provide high quality functional extras, while continuing to meet construction schedules. A common comment among shipyard personnel has been that the quality of the workmanship on and in the building is the best they have observed.”

-Head, Laboratory Division PSNS Quality Assurance Office
