THE RUSSELL FAMILY FOUNDATION HEADQUARTERS

CLIENT: The Russell Family Foundation

LOCATION: Gig Harbor, WA

BUILDING SF: 60,000

TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION: Structural Steel Framing with Combination of Exterior Material

This LEED Certified, two-story, 60,000 square foot office building and parking garage located underground on Gig Harbor Bay is truly one of the most unique buildings in the Puget Sound area and was the second LEED certified building in Washington State. As a team member, WPC participated in early community and government informal gatherings, design review meetings, Planning Commission meetings and City Council approval meetings to gain acceptance for this unique, one of a kind building built underground with a park on the roof.

With the building located below grade with a public park on top, the building envelope for water protection as well as structural integrity was uncompromising. The projects goals were to create a building that utilized environmental sustainable principals resulting in an ecologically friendly structure. All the materials resulting from demolition of the previous structure were recovered and recycled. The majority of the steel used in the new building came from recycled materials. Natural ventilation was incorporated in a way to reduce energy use by over 50%.
