PANTAGES THEATER

CLIENT: City of Tacoma

LOCATION: Tacoma, WA

TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION: Historical Renovation

This renovation project to incorporate new finishes and fixtures while preserving the historical look and feel of the original Pantages Theater building. This involved such tasks as taking plaster castings of the existing ornamental columns and recreating them simulate the original columns.

The size of the lobby was increased by almost double the original size and was refurbished to include a custom-weave designed carpet incorporating a compass rose design. Perhaps the most spectacular addition to the lobby included three handcrafted stained-glass windows. The existing grand stair case was demolished and rebuilt in a new location to allow better traffic flow and more lobby gathering space for patrons. A concessions room was added along with a new ticket office. In addition, the staircases are wider; restrooms have expanded onto all floors; and framed mirrors have gone up in the first-floor back hallway.
