CLIENT: US Army Corps of Engineers, NW Area Office

LOCATION: Fort Lewis, WA

BUILDING SF: 17,000

TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION: Combination Structural Steel & CMU

This 17,000 sf Design/Build medical research facility is used to provide health services for military units in a 22-state area. The building includes moisture-resistant laboratory rooms that are required to support a constant temperature 95 degrees with 100% humidity. This placed great importance on the unique HVAC system.

On time completion was critical to the Army to allow movement of the occupant from a base being closed to their new home at Fort Lewis. The WPC Design/Build Team worked very closely with the Seattle District Corps of Engineers during design development to guarantee that all design criteria was met or exceeded.

“You persevered in performing the design and construction required so that the facility was complete by the contract completion date. On time completion was critical to the Army to allow movement of the occupant from a base being closed to their new home at Ft. Lewis. In accomplishing the work on time, you also succeeded in maintaining quality construction.”

-Contracting Officer’s Representative, USACE
